De Villiers Is In!

Philippe de Villiers has filed the 500 signatures necessary to be on the presidential ballot. This brief from his website summarizes his statements to the group of reporters waiting for him at the offices of the Constitutional Council:

Philippe de Villiers warmly thanked the mayors of France who, despite the pressures, and sometimes the intimidation, agreed to place their trust in him and to endorse his candidacy. He also praised the work of the MPF party activists and cadres who have traveled the roads of France to meet with the mayors. "It's a first great victory...Now the real campaign begins. I'm going out to meet the French people and offer them my plan that can be summarized in one word: I am the man of patriotism."

Philippe de Villiers went over the major ideas of his platform, explaining that he had three enemies: globalism, socialism and domination by separatist groups (communautarisme). And he proposes three priorities: "European protection to stop the hemorrhage of businesses out of France, a moral and civic renewal to help restore our values that have been undermined by laxism and socialism, and the reestablishment of State authority over separatist groups, notably Islam."

Bravo! Let the battle begin! Sparks will fly, commies will die (hopefully along with Sarko, the right's great faux pas)!

You have all expressed my feelings too. And I almost missed it! I was walking away from the computer to run some errands when I decided to take one last look at PDV's website, and there it was. Errands will wait till tomorrow.

I believe Philippe de Villiers is exactly the man France needs right now as her President. He will cut taxes, cut welfare for do-nothings, create the best conditions for business, will restore Christian values, noble monarchism, stop the Islamic invasion, restore Franc and banish Euro, will pursue independent foreign policy, reject the dictat of Washington.

@ Igor Prospekhin,

He is not running for president any more. He received fewer than a million votes in 2007, and did not do well in the European election in 2009, though he himself was re-elected to the EU Parliament.

He was by far my favorite candidate until he withdrew from presidential politics. He never managed to really connect with voters, and the media regarded him as an imitator of Jean-Marie Le Pen. He also had some family and health problems to deal with.

Recently he has been very active traveling to Russia to help create theme parks there similar to the ones he created in his department of Vendée. He has also expressed his support for the Manif Pour Tous and for Marine Le Pen, though he doesn't say very much in general about politics. He has recently published works of history on Louis IX.

I would be happy to see him return to politics. And he would make a great minister of Education.
