Under The Influence?

Several websites, including Le Salon Beige, have expressed alarm at these images of President Sarkozy at the G8 summit. He appears to be drunk, but isn't it possible that he was in a rush following his meeting with Putin and merely out of breath? He has said that he does not drink. It has been suggested also that Putin offered him some vodka.

My first thought was that he was shaken by his meeting with (Ras)Putin, but I think he is simply out of breath from rushing.

(Ras)Putin!!!

That's great. Why didn't I think of that?

: ) Rasputin in Russian means dissolute or licentious, as in aberrant or going off a path. Put' is a path, a word you find in sputnik (travelling companion or person who travels a path with you). So is Putin on the righteous path? Well Hitler had no vices either they say, not that I would compare the two. I don't know what Bush saw when he looked into the ex-KGB eyes--maybe the black holes of space? Perhaps that was what Sarko was reacting to. (just some pointless musings on a Monday night)

Humanity should be grateful they have Putin. A serious leader and a patriot.

I agree with Hephaestos.
Putin is also an admirer of Aleksandr Isayevich Solzhenitsyn, whom he visited today.
Solzhenitsyn is very critical of both, the former soviet regime and the west.

Solzhenitsyn: "I highly appreciate your visit. There are millions of issues that require your attention and I cannot imagine how you have managed to find time to visit me."

Putin: "I would like to thank you for your work for the benefit of Russia. Even today you continue working. You have always stood by your views, throughout your entire lifetime."

Interview of Aleksandr Isayevich Solzhenitsyn (last year)

@ bogomir

Thanks for the link to the interview. I hope others read it too.

Interestingly, he does not see a coming religious war, despite signs to the contrary.

I don't know about Putin, but Solzhenitsyn is certainly a great patriot.
