Demonstration Banned

The website Occidentalis has been enthusiastically announcing an anti-Islamization rally, to be held in Brussels on September 11, 2007. Plans were afoot to demonstrate the will of the peoples of various European countries who want to stop the spread of Islam. Tracts were drawn up announcing the long-awaited event and were to be copied and placed (anonymously) in mailboxes.

It sounded like a good idea and a welcome opening salvo in what was hoped would become a larger popular movement.

But the mayor of Brussels, perhaps not surprisingly, has banned the demonstration. This rather timorous report is from 7 sur 7:

Freddy Thielemans, the mayor of Brussels, has made his decision. He fears, justifiably, for public safety.

The mayor of Brussels, Freddy Thielemans, after discussions with the police and other services, decided on Thursday to ban a demonstration against the "progression of the practices of Islam." Mr. Thielemans fears that the event would trigger incidents between the demonstrators and the foreign population of his city. (...)

This Thursday, Filip Dewinter (of Vlaams Belang) had urged people to march in the demonstration.

The organization known as SIOE, "Stop the Islamization of Europe", wanted to organize a rally in front of the European Parliament on September 11, exactly 6 years after the attacks on New York. The organizers insist that they have no connection to the parties of the extreme-Right, but their desire is to stop the "invasion" of Islamic practices in Europe. Their anger is directed at Islamic law, which they say violates equality and democracy.

After meeting with the police services, Mayor Thielemans decided to ban this demonstration because "the danger to public safety is too great," according to his spokesman Nicolas Dassonville. The large foreign community living in the neighborhood could react to this action," he said adding that furthermore the organization's website states that, "Muslims are trying to establish in Europe a parallel society ruled by Koranic law."

This initiative of Stop the Islamization of Europe is joined by the British group called No Sharia Here, the German group Pax Europa, and the Danish SIAD. The organizers hope to assemble tens of thousands of persons in Brussels. Mr. Thielemans' spokesman stressed that the city of Brussels receives between 500 and 600 requests for permits to demonstrate each year, but has banned only 6 in the course of the last five years.

One of Occidentalis' readers had a suspicion that the rally would be banned. On August 6 he wrote:

- I am ready to bet that this rally will not take place! Our dhimmi Eurabian leaders will oppose it on the usual grounds of danger to public safety! They have done it for less important things than this! Remember the pork soup scandal! We'll find out soon enough!

And indeed he was right. What isn't clear at this moment is whether or not the organizers will attempt to defy Brussels.

This rally was one of the very few times a concerted effort had been made to voice opposition to Islam in Europe.

Another article at 7 sur 7 informs us that SIOE is going to court in an effort to overturn the ban. Apparently 20,000 persons have already signed on to march.

The mayor is pictured above in a rather unfortunate pose - or is it deliberate? I guess he doesn't like the idea of opposing Islam. After all, Brussels is the Mecca of Eurabia.

Update August 13, 5:30 A.M. - A change has been made in the first line of this post. Originally I had written "a No-Islam-In-Europe rally". This has been changed to "an anti-Islamization rally." The original phrase was made up by me based on things that were said at the Occidentalis website, but a reader pointed out that No-Islam-In-Europe implies a stop to immigration, and that SIOE is not against immigration. They accept the presence of Muslims, and hope to tame sharia law through EU laws, an unrealistic notion, and one which would only give Muslims more time to infiltrate. Zero immigration plus deportations are the only way to stop the Islamization process.
