French immigration minister Eric Besson exposed by wife as a 'serial cheat with interchangeable mistresses'

France's hardline immigration minister Eric Besson has been branded a 'serial cheat with inter-changeable mistresses' in a scathing new book by his ex-wife.
Sylvie Brunel, 49, claims her former husband - who is being tipped as the next French prime minister - was unfaithful for 'five years before their marriage and 25 years afterwards'.
Even while reciting their wedding vows of 'fidelity, aid and support' at the marriage in 1983, Besson is said to have stopped the mayor and interrupted: 'Not fidelity.'

After Besson, 51, had a succession of lovers, he finally left his wife after almost 30 years together for 'a woman as young as our eldest daughter', according to Brunel.

The immigration minister - responsible for ordering the destruction of the Calais squatter camp home to hundreds of British-bound migrants - is reported to have" called his ex-wife's book 'shameless'.
She retorted: 'What's shameless is the way you've treated me for 30 years.'

The latest sex scandal to erupt in France comes after culture minister Frederic Mitterand admitted to hiring young male prostitutes in Thailand.
Mitterand's confession in his autobiography was made before he became minister but thrust back into the media spotlight after he publicly called for child sex offender Roman Polanski to be freed.
While he is facing calls for his resignation, President Nicolas Sarkozy fuelled the controversy further by describing the his minister's confession as 'courageous and talented'.
Besson himself defended Mitterand saying he didn't see why hiring Asian rent boys was incompatible with being a minister.
Now instead of trying to halt his wife's memoirs, Besson is now said to be revelling in the media attention and had even recommended the manuscript to his own publisher.
France-Soir newspaper wrote: 'He even seems to be enjoying it.'

It is the second time a member of his own family has attacked him in print.
In 2004, his teenage daughter wrote an account of how her teenage years were affected by growing up with a work-obsessed politician father.

By as yet there have been no calls for Besson's resignation over his infidelities, and the minister has refused to make any public comment on his former wife's book.
France has a tradition of tolerating the bed-hopping antics of their politicians.
Fredieric Mitterand's uncle, former president Francois Mitterand is known to have had a mistress and a lovechild during his time as head of state.
Jacques Chirac was also known for his string of young lovers, with his own staff even saying he could entertain a women in 'three minutes, shower included'.
