An American in Poitiers
I have written several articles on the city of Poitiers, its religious and cultural heritage, and the current Islamization process that signals a major turning point in its history. The building of a mosque (or mosques) in the city where Charles Martel defeated the Muslims in 732 reveals the dramatic reversal of values that France has undergone in 1300 years. But most of these radical changes to the national pride of the country have been recent - since the 1960's. Before that, no matter what the upheavals, wars, revolutions, or cultural shifts, France still stayed recognizably France, her towns, her countryside, her Christian roots, her literary output and her artistic preeminence were seemingly eternal.
The building of mosques, the opening of the borders to Islam, the blatant abrogation of the 1905 law separating Church and State, all constitute something new, something that has never happened before, unless you want to consider the Occupation by the Germans as a comparable event. But the analogy does not hold up, since there was a declared war against Germany, an armed resistance against Germany, and ultimately a surrender by Germany.
I missed the following video when it was posted in August 2009 at Islamisation, the website administered by Joachim Véliocas. The video tells us nothing we don't already know, but it is in English, made by an American who visited Poitiers and saw for himself the changes described above.

I'd heard about a mosque being built in Poitiers, but had no idea that it was receiving massive state funding, so thanks for posting this video. I'll be adding it to my blog shortly with a little commentary.
Incidentally, have you heard about the new anti-Islamisation protest being planned following on from the relative success of the 'apero' on 18 June? This time, Riposte Laique and a coalition of 20 organisations/campaigns and bloggers is planning to hold what it terms a 'Grand Aperitif Republicain'. This time revellers will take to the streets not only of Paris, but also of Bordeaux, Lyon, Strasbourg and Toulouse. Hopefully we should be receiving some positive news about this on the evening of 4 September: http://durotrigan.blogspot.com/2010/08/french-anti-islamists-plan.html
@ durotrigan
Yes, I'm aware of the September 4 planned demonstration. At exactly the same time, in exactly the same place in Paris, there will be some kind of pro-Islamic celebration honoring the "Islamization of Europe". Should be interesting (in the Chinese sense of the word, of course...)
Regarding the funding of mosques, I've written a lot about it. If you click the label "mosques" at the end of the post, you will find many articles. One of the earliest (I think the title was "130-year-plan" describes the way in which long-term leases at a pittance are granted to Muslim associations that want to build a mosque. The loophole is that they are building a "cultural center" not a "religious building". The same is true at Ground Zero where they speak of a "cultural center". These centers include schools and Arabic lessons for both Muslims and non-Muslims.
there will be some kind of pro-Islamic celebration honoring the "Islamization of Europe".
disgusting!

This sounds like the Muslims might be planning a 'confrontation', the kind of thing they do in Britain when theres an EDL protest. How will the authorities act if there is 'trouble', will the authorities follow the British model and aid the Muslims against the indigenous French?
How is it that there already so many pre-packaged dhimmis in this world who are "willingly subdued" to pay the jizya, hoping that the mosque imam and attendees will be "nice" and grateful for the help? They respect no common courtesies, let alone non-Sharia systems of law. They honor no treaties or agreements. France needs another Charles Martel. And when he's done there, send him to Manhattan, NYC.
