Front Page Celebrations

While I was slaving at my computer, Dominique Strauss-Kahn was dining on pasta with black truffles in New York and Prince Albert of Monaco married Charlène in a religious ceremony. The activities of Nafissatou Diallo were not disclosed. Above, a red carpet for Nicolas Sarkozy and all the guests. Sarkozy is in a slightly better position now to win in 2012 even if DSK returns all white-washed.

Below, wedding guest Bernadette Chirac, wife of Jacques, speaks with the former empress of Iran Farah Pahlavi. It's been a while since I've seen a photo of her.

There were all kinds of rumors in the days preceding the marriage about Albert having sired another child. He already has two "illegitimate" children, one by an American woman and the other by an African woman from Togo. Charlène appeared to be on the verge of calling it all off, but apparently changed her mind. The Royal Palace strongly denied the rumors. The Grimaldi children (not Caroline so much as Albert and Stephanie) certainly thought nothing of having babies out of wedlock. When celebrities do it so freely, it's hard to tell young people that they don't have the same rights.

There are loads of pictures at Le Parisien.

OK. I should have just said "married". Will make the change.

Did you notice that she didn't even make the effort of speaking a few words in French ; after all it IS the official language of the state of Monaco, and she is supposed to be the queen there!

@ zazie,

I have to admit this royal marriage did not turn me on. First, the Prince already has TWO children! Second, Charlène is nothing but a pretty statue, a pale version of Grace Kelly. The royals today are not very "royal". I do think William and Harry still have a touch of true nobility and roguishness which I like, but Kate is just a pair of long bony legs.

Stephanie of Monaco also has long bony legs that she exposes. Caroline looks good - but she always did.

As for Charlène, she is South African, and Albert clearly has a penchant for things African. How interested she will be in her new job remains to be seen. Grace took her duties seriously. Grace said she always felt she could never live up to French standards of excellence, but I feel that she did.

Stéphane Bern, journalist France2, and expert on royals, commented with a smile, about Bernadette that, she had been asking him "Do you think I will get an invitation..?", absolutely eager to have the honor:-)

- Oui

She did say the most important word that day, in French, though.

Rumours claim that she tried to run away three times up to the marriage, and that DNA-tests are awaiting him for one, possibly two more children.

All in all, it sounds like an unhappy time for the "royal" couple. A very bad start to an important marriage.

I don't know if the rumors are true. I haven't followed the story. But it may have been because of the paternity suits. Maybe she didn't want to be married to a man with children scattered over the globe.

But I repeat - these were only rumors. So let's be prudent.

Daily Mail is normally well informed, and they say that DNA tests may have been postponed until after the wedding. We don't know. We'll see.

What we know for sure, is that she does not look overwelmingly happy. Lots of readers totally agree in this, interpreting her body language.

What a tough life it will be to measure up to his mother!

Coincidence? Word of verification: "froids" :-(

This marriage appears to be a disaster. I didn't realize it was this bad. Why did he bother to marry her and why did she agree? All the money in the world cannot make them happy. He seems to lack completely a sense of responsibility to the throne, and to his subjects.

According to one of the articles they have been living together for five years?? If that is true, it must have been an unhappy five years for them to "kiss" that way. This whole story puts me off. I thought Stephanie was bad, but Albert is worse. At least she cannot rule.

An what a shame for the people of Monaco who were hoping for another Princess Grace.

- Look, who's sitting between Farah Pahlavi and Bernadette! Aga Khan, Persian related, which probably explains why he is seated by Fara Pahlavi. Leader of a huge group of muslims in the Pakistan area.

He just recently got a divorce in France. He owns property on five continents, also in France and England.

Yasmin Aga Khan's half-brother. - Rita Hayworth was once his step-mother

"Today", Matt Lauer welcomes Charlene and Albert of Monaco

At November 04, 2011 12:48 AM, Blogger tiberge said...

I watched the Matt Lauer interview. I liked the prince more than the princess. She does not speak well, and I'm not referring to her South African accent, but to the level of speech and the uninteresting comments. Her arms are certainly those of a swimmer! Albert was nice, but so American in his speech. You would never know he was born abroad.

I don't mean to imply that he should not speak English, I mean simply that he sounds so American it's hard to remember he is Monegasque. His mother sounded less American. She had cultivated a sound all her own - there was a very slight hint of British accent. At any rate you knew she was "high born".
