A Welcome Change
A reader sent me an article, by Joseph A. Harriss, from the American Spectator, about the Front National. He refers to it as the National Front, a much more correct usage, but I cannot resist sticking with the French version. He paints an uplifting portrait of Marine Le Pen and her current (and hopefully continuing) rise in popularity and credibility.
It makes for some relaxing and hope-inspiring reading for the Fourth, following three days of sordid revelations in the biggest comedy of errors in American judicial history. Fortunately, D.A. Cyrus Vance is a Democrat. If he were a Republican, it would be time to lower the curtain definitively on American justice and ethics. His initial desire to blacken a white man's reputation and whitewash a black female extortionist will go down in history as the unkindest cut of all to the French, who may now have to face an election that includes Mr. Strauss-Kahn.
Then again, maybe not. We live in times when the blindingly unexpected event is to be expected.
Photo below from the LA Times. The somewhat tongue-in-cheek article there says that patriotic celebrations create more Republicans.
