The Official Photo

Here is the official photo of François Hollande. You would never know he was president of France, unless you had eyes sharp enough to discern the nebulous French flag in the background to the left. The EU flag is a little clearer. No pride at all in being French? To be fair, I should add that the scene is the lawn of Elysée Palace, but unless you knew what it was it could be almost any building.

A writer at RL had it right - "notaire de province" (provincial civil lawyer). Also, "deer caught in the headlights" comes to mind.

Tiberge,

Please help me : what is the English phrase for "les bras m'en tombent"?
The poor man looks bewildered, as one who does not know where he is, what to do, or where to go next! I am sure he has not yet recovered from the "divine surprise" of his election.

@dauphin

Does this mean Holland is France's Obama?

@ zazie,

We don't have an exact equivalent. Based on your comment, here are some suggestions: "I'm flabbergasted", "How did I get here?", "What's going on?", "I can't believe my eyes", "Did I make a wrong turn?", "Where am I?", "I'm speechless", etc...

Here's one I made up: "If this is Elysée, I must be François Hollande."
