Hostage Released in Vitry-Sur-Seine
There is a hostage situation in a school in Vitry-sur-Seine (Val-de-Marne). Le Parisien reports:
A man is still inside the Charles Perrault day care center in Vitry-sur-Seine where he is holding a parent hostage. He is surrounded by police of the RAID elite unit who are trying to talk to him. The man appears to be in possession of two weapons and is uttering incoherent words saying that he "was run over by a train" and that he intended to "kill the police." He is wearing the clothing of a trash collector. According to a reporter for Le Parisien, the hostage-taker seems "determined"
The father who is being held hostage went to the school a little after 7:00 a.m. accompanying his son to the playroom and found himself face to face with the hostage-taker who was with four children and three adults. He had a weapon, but the father managed to make his son and the others leave. He was then alone with the criminal.
The criminal is about 30 years old, a former soldier dressed as a trash collector. A police barricade surrounds the school and a near-by building was evacuated.
As I was about to post the word came that the father was released, and the criminal was eventually arrested without incident.
